Civil Ceremonies

The Plough Inn is licensed as a venue for civil wedding ceremonies. The ceremony itself takes place in the specific licensed rooms which are the Settle Down, The Snug, the Oak Room or the Conservatory Restaurant. Consequently, if it's a civil ceremony you're interested in, the ideal numbers are between 10 and 70 guests.
You can, of course, have extra guests at evening events if you wish.

  • A religious ceremony or blessing must not take place during the civil ceremony.
  • Food or drink may not be consumed in the wedding ceremony room prior to or during the ceremony.
  • A civil ceremony has to be organised by the bride and groom directly with Settle Registry Office. We can provide you with contacts and telephone numbers.
  • Video recording may take place during the ceremony provided it is unobtrusive, that the camera operator remains stationary, and that the prior agreement of the Registrar has been sought.
  • No photography is permitted during the ceremony except at the invitation of the Registrar.

A religious ceremony

Your wedding service could be conducted at one of the churches in the surrounding villages. You'll find our local churches very appealing. Some of them look out over open fields such as the pretty Holy Trinity at Rathmell, two miles away and much the same now as it must have been when built in the1830s and consecrated in 1842.
